Given the sad news today:

Have the stories of Terry Pratchett influenced your gaming in any way?

Why isn't rpg's more popular with majority of the world?

introducing a rpg to others, do you make pre gens or allow them to make characters?

If a rpg could be made into a movie or hbo series, which one would it be and why?

When you thumb a user's post or give it a geekgold tip, what are you saying about that post or user? Do the two differ?

How many attributes (stats, characteristics, etc.) should an RPG use to describe a character? What number, if any, is "too many", and why? What number, if any, is "too few" and why?

If there had been no Dungeons and Dragons/TSR/Gary Gygax, how would RPGs have started and how would they be different?

If there had been no Tolkien, where would Dungeons and Dragons have used for its primary inspiration? Narnia? Conan? How different would it be?

I'm sure these have been asked before, but it's probably been a while:

What is your favorite character archetype to play? Why?

What is your least favorite character archetype to play? Why?

What is your least favorite character archetype to have someone else in the party play? Why?

What would you do for x geekgold? (Please replace x with an amount of your choice.)

...and what would you use that geekgold for?

What do you use to represent characters on the table, apart from miniatures?

The March 22 QOTD has evolved in an interesting way. May as well list the unasked question people are now answering:

What kind of gaming snob have you been? Are you still one in any way?

Should we commission a new/second Microbadge for QOTD V2. Or should we simply use mb (linked in it's descrition to vol. 1) for both threads?

I added a link to Volume 2 in the microbadge description, so now it will count for both!

Do you use a GM screen?
What sorts of things do you like to have on it?
Do you use it more for hiding rolls, hiding world info, referencing rules, or an even combo of all?

If you don't use a screen, do you use any sort of "cheat sheet", whether it's a physical paper or digital?
What form does it take?

More mapping questions:

Have you ever adapted a real world map to a gaming situation?

Have you ever made a map that spelled or represented something?

Do you ever experience "low-prep" guilt either during or after a session?

What makes a successful forum thread?

Sadly, most threads on game forums here die a sad and lonely death. We just don't seem to have the critical mass of gamers of the dedicated game websites. That said, some threads take off and run for days. What makes a compelling thread?

To what extent do you make your players track cheap/mundane supplies?

In particular do you make them account for cheap mundane consumable items items (e.g. torches, daily rations, ales, ammunition) and the (often tiny relative to the characters' wealth) amounts of money used to purchase them?

There are roughly two types of (fantasy) RPGs: those that use everyday people as characters, and those who presume a more heroic character.

Everyday people as characters work if adventure finds the (reluctant) hero -- games like Call of Cthulhu (2nd - 6th Edition) operate on the presumption that the characters will have adventure thrust upon them, and that they will be forced to become involved.
Heroic people as characters, by contrast, rise to the occasion: guarding caravans against bandits, cleaning out a nest of undead etcetera. D&D is an example of such a game.

It is, of course, possible to create a character with an everyday background for a heroic RPG. But it has happened to me, as a GM, that such everyday people actively reject the idea of participating in heroic engagements. "Goblins are attacking the next village? Nah, I'll just stay home and grow my turnips instead."
Why would you want to play an everyday person in a fantasy world and seek to actively avoid adventure in a heroic game? Is there a market for "Turnip: The Ripening", where you play a peasant with a totally un-eventful life?

(OK, this questions is only a little bit inspired by a recent experience that left me only a tiny bit frustrated.)
