Re: RPG Geek DramaSystem Contest 2015
I'll post it on my blog and I'll post a link here in the discussion thread. I hope I can finish it before the end of the contest, but basically, my pitch is something like:

"Mariners journeying on the Aegean Sea and beyond, you are Greek heroins and heroes on a mythical quest of your own. Thirsting for glory, you will have to sail through the whims of the gods, the personal desires of your crewmates and your own hubris to bring the object of your quest back home."

(Well, I've just finished reading Apollonius of Rhodes' Argonautica...)

Nice addition!

Now it's intimidating... The stakes are high!

Now, I have to make a choice. Two ideas, but one submission...

As I told you on Facebook, Jean-Christophe, take it easy. What truly matters is the fun in the challenge.

So good luck with your two ideas, and if you can't choose, than mix them up.

Re: RPG Geek DramaSystem Contest 2015
Is there a pitch format? I'm not familiar with the game at all but I don't think I need be in order to enter, I just need to know the format. Can someone post a pitch outline, with section titles and perhaps sentence describing what needs to be in that section? ... or is it more nebulous than that?

Tom's pitch Le Cirque des Rêves is online - linked to from the RPG Item. Plus there are quite a few links in deborn's geeklist.

But basically it is -

Nutshell
A one or two sentence top level overview

Characters
Describe what sort of characters are typically involved. This often includes a list of possible character types (which could be a simple one word role such as doctor, or could be more descriptive such as 'desperate punks looking for an easy score, where every move digs them deeper into the hole')

Setting
A long description of the setting

Themes
What themes are important to this pitch - usually about 6 to 10.

Tightening The Screws
Possible events that might add drama to your game.

Names
Example character names for the pitch

Sometimes people add a Sources, and Additional Elements.

If you haven't read or played Dramasystem before I will note that it is really designed to focus on dramatic scenes -

from Hillfolk wrote:
In a dramatic scene, the main characters confront internal obstacles, seeking emotional reward from people they care deeply about, for good or ill.

Procedural scenes - those involving external obstacles - fighting opponents, chases, investigating mysteries, etc - are not the focus of the game.

Anyway read one or two pitches and you'll soon get the idea.

Like Andy said, this is the basic format for Series Pitches, which you can adapt of course.

This is exactly what I usually enjoy with some mecha animes like Patlabor: human relationships over robot action.

Big shout out to all the writers (including you, Andrea!).
You're all making this contest awesome and worthwhile. I'm really enjoying it and your submissions are awesome.

Who knows, perhaps we might need to create some "gaming initiative" to have them all played, like the one for the Fiasco contests, which inspired me this contest by the way.

"New" is right. I'm totally new to DramaSystem and series pitches, but couldn't resist the fun of submitting a pitch.

Please don't laugh too loudly at mine... shake

No worries Rae, many of us are new to the game too. I only discovered it less than a year ago myself.

And as long as you had a lot of fun writing this Series Pitch, then it's all that matters, isn't it?

Don't worry about being new. I had heard about Hillfolk, but never read it until last Friday. So, if we do decide to laugh, enjoy mine for what it is. I think a little laughter makes the world go round. Seriously though, you and the rest look tremendous. I am jealous of your ideas and I think it is really cool how many different ideas can come out of this cool little game. So many themes and locations and time periods.

Not the only one, Rae.

I didn't finish reading Hillfolk, and had some inspiration, looked through the pitches to get an idea of what there is. Had to write mine to get it out of my head so I could work on other things.

Yay, more excellent reading material!

And I wouldn't worry about it, Rae. I've never even played Hillfollk. Not to mention that so far I think there have been more entries from people new to the dramasystem than not and it's all brilliant stuff!

God bless,
Kezle
