It's the year 2944 of the Third Age of Middle-earth

Smaug the dragon is dead, the Necromancer of Dol Guldur gone and the orcs hide in their mountain fortress recovering from their lost at the Battle of the Five Armies.

The dwarves have returned to Erebor and The Lonely Moutain is now the most prosperous dwarf-colony active in the Northern world. Those who followed Bard the Dragonslayer to Dale now enjoy the proximity and friendship of the dwarves in adition to their gold and craftmanship. Dale is now almost rebuild and King Bard now look to build a powerful kingdom in the north and issued a proclamation heard everywhere in the Wilderland and beyond:

Free Peoples of the North!
We have won our freedom from the oppression of the Dragon, have cleared from our lands the threat of the Goblins from the far mountains, and have proved that together we are mightier than our foes.

I believe that our destiny is in our own hands, providing that we do not forget this lesson. Together we are strong. Before we came together, we were as frightened children, hiding in our homes from the shadows of the wider world. But now we have a chance of something better, and all it takes is our courage to grasp it.

And so, Free Peoples of the North, gather up your courage and bring it to me. I have plans for the North such as you will scarce believe, but I need your strength to turn plan to deed. In return for playing your part in our rebirth, I will pay well in gold, land and the satisfaction of knowing you lead your people from the shadows into a brighter future.

Make haste to Lake-town. On the first day of each month my advisors and I will appoint tasks to the willing, and disperse rewards to those who bring their tasks to completion. And they shall be celebrated, for they are the heroes of our age.

Adventurers have now traveled to Esgaroth, the new city on the Long Lake, to answer King Bard call. Their reason are multiples: gold, lands, titles, renown or the simple desire to do good and make the Wilderland a better place.

A group of those adventurers now wait in rich house near the town-hall of Esgaroth, the house of Gloin, envoy of both Erebor and Dale at Esgaroth, to see if the well known dwarf has somes jobs for them. A young dwarf servant name Beli has installed them in a little lounge and offered drinks and food while they are waiting to be received by his master.

You can use that moment of waiting to introduce your character and do some chat between you.

Uialdor has sat alone for some time, lost in his own dark thoughts. He may have ignored any greetings or inquiries directed at him - it was hard to say. He gazed blankly at the hearth-fire, one hand in the other, his chin resting upon them.

And then he knew even as the door opened, before his eyes knew the truth. His grim face broke into an ebullient expression of love only brothers and comrades share.

"Araw a Namo! Amarth athrad mín lond!!" he exclaimed as he embraced his brother, Daenir, so sure was he that Fate itself had woven their paths back together.

"At last! A star shines on the hour of our meeting."

Daenîr finally releases his brother after their long embrace, feeling the despair, his constant companion these past few years, lift a bit from his shoulders. Usually reserved, he looks about the room somewhat meekly, until his eyes cross a less familiar, but still known, face...

"Iston i nîf gîn...mae govannen, Dúnadan. Celduin, is it not? It has been a long time since we trekked Southern Mirkwood together..."

"I know that face...well met, Man of the West."

To the others gathered there, Daenîr says, "Forgive me my manners, but I've not seen my brother for a long while...and I'm a bit out of practice with the Westron tongue. I am called Daenîr..."

Celduin

The ranger sits quietly, sipping on a pint of bitter ale. From under the shadow of his hood, his eyes scan the room. He sees two Elves warmly embracing in the far corner. Something about them seems vaguely familiar, their voices or perhaps their mannerisms. However, the light casts odd shadows, partially obscuring their features.

Then, unexpectedly, the Elves approach and greet him.

"Daenîr? Uialdor? Mae govannen! Nae saian luume'!"

Translation for GM and Sindarin speakers:

Daenîr? Uialdor? Well met! It has been too long!

Celduin smiles, his heart uplifted by seeing old traveling companions.

"It's good to see both of you. You both still have sharp eyes indeed... I'm surprised you recognized me with the hood covering half my face, and the beard covering the other half. It's a good thing that my enemies aren't quite as keen eyed as my friends!" Celduin chuckles.

Unconsciously, Celduin scratches at his new beard, not quite used to it yet.

So how have the two of you been? I trust that these last few years have treated you kindly my friends?

"Not kindly, my friend, but as well as can be expected, all things considered...sporting a new look? Never understood Man's passion for facial hair, seems like a nuisance but, then again, I guess that describes life in general..."

Daenîr then notes another man in waiting, distinct for his dress...

"Hail, Man of Gondor. While I cannot recall all names, I never forget a face. While searching for my brother..." Daenîr looks dryly at Uialdor, "...I went through Gondor a year back. Looked throughout the woods of Ithilien; also briefly stopped in your great White City. Perchance I saw you there?"

Greetings my name is Gilrandir, I'm often visting the City of Kings in between raids with our company to refresh our supplies and reinvigorate our minds/bodys. This usually entales us spending time with glasses of ale like i am doing on this fine day. Perhaps i saw you in our local taven there, 'The Knight and Lady'. The barkeep there is very welcoming to the elvish and does his best to make them feel comfortable. You'll have to excuse me for not recalling, i get a little forgetful after too many ales, which reminds me.. i could do with another right now.

Gilrandir calls over the bar keep and buys a round for the brothers and one for Celduin who he looks at trying to place.

Ranger, are you a ranger of the South like me or of the North? Any tales you care to tell of your journey?

Celduin clasps the man's hand.

Hail and well met Gilrandir. I'm Celduin. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I hail from the north, friend... though in recent years I call the open road home. You're Gondorian? I've been fortunate enough to visit Minas Tirith on more than one occasion. It's always a sight to behold when one lays eyes upon The White City.

Yes Celduin, i do like to visit but i would much rather enjoy the open air. If it wasn't for the Orcs, Goblins, and such i could easily stay on the road like yourself instead. So Elvish friends, what are your names. I dont think i caught them? What do you do?

"'Gilrandir', you say? "Wandering star" - methinks you were named well, for you have traveled far! I am Uialdor, brother here to Daenir. I once hailed from Thranduil's realm, but now I call no place home, save where I can be within striking distance of yrch and their misbegotten allies." He said "yrch" like the foulest curse. "Your calling has been the protection of Gondor, then, or of all free peoples? I have never been so far south, myself, to see your fair city."

"Had I known that, dear brother, grace would've never allowed me to see Minas Tirith as well, since I went looking for you. Alas though, it was worth the journey to see it..."

He takes a swig of ale, and nods to Gilrandir. "We elves generally prefer wine, but thank you for the drink...my throat was dry from the journey here and a little ale every now and then lets me know I'm alive..."

My calling is one to protect those that can not protect themselves. Ofcourse i would protect Gondor with my life without hestitation... at that Gilrandir starts singing a song at the top of his voice.

Gondor! Gondor, between the Mountains and the Sea!
West Wind blew there; the light upon the Silver Tree
Fell like bright rain in gardens of the Kings of old.
O proud walls! White towers! O winged crown and throne of gold!
O Gondor, Gondor! Shall Men behold the Silver Tree,
Or West Wind blow again between the Mountains and the Sea?

"Then I envy you your foolishness, dear brother," Uialdor jested, "for you have seen the White City while these eyes have not had that pleasure."

Uialdor finds the ale of men strange on the tongue and heavy in the head, and discretely abandons his serving after a couple of polite gulps.

He does not join in the song, but enjoys hearing it sung and appreciates its craft.

The group also learn to know the fifth person in the room, a girl of Laketown named Kelda who seem to be a knowledgeable person on many subjects.

You are interrupted by Beli, the dwarf servant of Gloin, who announce you his master is ready to meet you. The young dwarf escort you to Gloin's private office. The 163 years old dwarf is sitted on a desk adapted for his size and is writting letters. He wears rich white clothes, matching the hue of the two points of his forked beard.

You all know that Gloin is one of the thirteen, the group of dwarf that initiate the quest of Erebor and that he is a veteran warrior and adventurer. Like most dwarves, he doesn't like elves but he remain courteous with them.

Gloin doesn't raise his head from his desk when you enter the office as he finish his work.

You will need to grab his attention by an introduction. So I need one person to act as the spokeman of the group and make a Tradition roll.

Uialdor hangs back a bit before Gloin. He defers to Daenir, both for being his senior and for being better at this sort of thing, but he has great reverence for the dwarf, having also fought at the Battle of Five Armies.

Daenîr, glancing at his brother, also prefers to stay in the background. Coincidentally, he was pulling duty with the Mirkwood patrolling party at the time Thorin and his party were "detained" by the Elvenking...while not at the forefront, he dares not bring unwanted attention to himself nor to the possible detriment of the party. He defers to the humans in the party as he thinks they'll make a better impression on the dwarven warrior.

I think Gilrandir and Kelda have the best Tradition bonuses

Can I lend my expertise to give him advantage? If so, I will.

Kelda stands silently, in respect for such great knowledge, obvious in all the trappings of Gloin's office. While in awe of the dusty tomes, she brings herself back to the moment and memorizes every detail. It would be her first journey away from home and toward the knowledge that she seeks. She wants to remember this moment for the rest of her life.

Kelda help 1d20+3 = (8) + 3 = 11

Kelda and Gilrandir spoke about Dwarves during the wait and the men of Gondor tries to apply some of her advices but unfortunetly his words seems to have little effects on the dwarf.

While Gilrandir introduce the group, Kelda looks arounds the room. The decoration is very sober as Gloin spend little time at Esgaroth each year. Still, the great axe hung on the wall behind the desk serve as a reminder of the warrior past of Gloin and there is a little peinting representing a young dwarf with a red beard on his desk.

Finally, Gloin put his letter aways and raise his head to look at the group. You can see he is absent-minded as something occupies his mind.

"So a stranger from the White City with a bunch of elves, You have strange friends my lady"
said Gloin to Kelda before turning his attention to Girlandir, "Still, You came at the right moment if you are looking for some adventures."

Gloin picks up parchment on his desk, reads it for a short moment before tossing it aways. "Tell me elves, do you know well the forest next to the Long Marsh?" asks Gloin to Daenir and Uialdor
