I've had several people send me links via Hangouts and E-Mail that tie the name Brophy to Skarka's family.

Not going to reshare here, but it's his grandmother's maiden name and his daughter's middle name. So it's a name with meaning to him.

They're at Essen, showing off Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. I wouldn't expect a rapid response.

I think the print pre-dates the correction, but I'm not sure. I have a friend who printed out his (pre-correction) PDF, and I'm waiting to hear back from him.

Made it to the game store today and I was blocked by shrink wrap. I am not sure why. There was a price sticker underneath the very thin wrap. None of the other RPG books outside of Star Trek were in shrink wrap. They would not let me take it off. So all I can say is that the book was printed in the Czech Republic

So it's now been two weeks since I was removed as a backer. I can't comment there anymore, and don't have access to backer-only updates.

But I was curious what progress there had been, and the answer is - unsurprisingly - none.

October 20th was the last update, and he hasn't commented on the project, either.

Those of you who are still backers: If you want to get your stuff (or a refund), you need to stay on him. Because clearly he will just do nothing unless someone stays on his case.

More than a month since I was paid, and there's still no new update for backers.

No, you have it confused with his pretendtious writing room where he twitters. That one gets more use.

For someone that seems to lack financial security, he has some expensive items. The Mac and Ipad are not cheap.

He also has a rule book out and open. Since Far West is not out, I wonder what other RPG he is writing at the moment?

That's a journal that's open on his desk.

The iPad is an older model (1-3, you can tell by the charging plug) and I remember him being an early adopter. He commented on RPGnet when I was struggling with the Leverage PDF in GoodReader on my iPad 2 and asked for advice, saying his worked just fine so it was obviously my fault (very helpful). Assuming it's an iPad 3 and that he bought it new it would be 6 years old at best.

He complains about his iMac being outdated sometimes, and I recall that being one of the reasons he was late - there was an Adobe CC update that he said wasn't compatible with his "older iMac". I'm not a Mac guy though so I can't offer much there.

I have no dog in this fight. I don't care how he's credited, etc. But I do think our wiki should be as factually correct as we can make it. Sadly, the GMS person entry here on our site has been e-vandalized before by various... uh... disgruntled... users.

Question-

I note that our person entry fom GMS now includes (since 10/25) "Michael Brophy" as an "alternate name". This was done by an admin during routine processing of correction requests from users; this "correction" stated:

Quote:
After the colossal failure that is the Far West Kickstarter, Skarka has started to use "Michael Brophy" (and possibly other pseudonyms) as a pen name in order to avoid backer-driven boycotts of product he worked on.

Brophy is his maternal grandmother's maiden name, and is also the middle name of his daughter.

Am I correct in assuming that while this may be the case, it is far from documented fact? I believe the alternate name should be removed because the conflation of the two names is based on speculation. Yes? No?

The actually-credited person on the STA product is a separate Michael Brophy entry.

I would agree that we don't know they are the same based on the information in this thread. There MAY be other data out there that was submitted to make the admins agree with the change.

It's REALLY hard to give GMS some reasonable doubt, but its probably a courtesy we should grant.

I can't remember - did I mention in this thread that when they updated the PDF to "correct" it and add Skarka's name to the credits they removed Michael Brophy's name?

It's in the exact same spot in the credits, too. Between Dayton Ward and Giles Pritchard.

Dec 22nd has a backer only update. It says update and chapter delivery. Since it is backer only, no idea if this is a new chapter, or just a chapter that has been previously released.

A friend posted the update elsewhere (with the download link removed):

GMS wrote:
Happy Holidays, everybody!

I know, I know -- not enough communication. November & December have been, unsurprisingly, chaotic. Sorry about that.

As previously stated, it was my intention to give you the completed chapters in order (you should now have 1-7). As I hit a slow-down, though, I have come around to agree with those of you who have requested that I just send whatever is done, regardless of order.

To that end, this update gives you the largest chapter in the core book, CHAPTER X - THE FAR WEST, completed, as well as an update on where we stand on the remainder.

First, here is the download link for CHAPTER X.

What's left:

CHAPTER VIII - FURIOUS ACTION: 2/3rds done. This has been the slow-going one: the core system chapter. One of the main things slowing me down has been going back through Chapters 1-7 to make sure that all of the subsystems that I promised would be covered in more detail in Chapter 8 are included and fully explained. Don't want to let anything slip!

CHAPTER IX - A FISTFUL OF BASTARDS: AKA the Critters/NPCs/Templates chapter. About 1/3 done (Critters). Ironing out what sorts of NPCs make sense to include, and what kind of pick-up-and-play PC Templates should be included.

CHAPTER XI - SECRET SCROLLS OF KUNG FU: AKA the GM's chapter (Narrators, in our case). I keep on coming up with tools and tips that I want to include. I need to stop tinkering and adding stuff, and just buckle down and final-draft it.

I'd intended to get all of this done before year's end -- I'll be blunt: This is unlikely, though possible. The reason it's unlikely is because I am headed out to spend Christmas with my extended family for the first time in 15 years, and naturally want to be as present as possible -- although I suspect that I'll still find time here and there to get some stuff done (and we'll be back home before year-end). In all likelihood, though, this will get its final touches once I'm back in the office on Monday, January 7th.

So we're almost there. Layout has begun, so the full PDF will follow soon after the final chapter deliveries, and then to the printer. Thank you all so much for your continued support and patience, which has been far more than anyone could hope for.

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season.

In other words: It's the same stuff he's released again, only with the (very minor) tweaks needed to bring them in line with the new system.

Chapter X was in progress, BTW, in November of 2014. He sent it to at least some folks by January of 2015, because Update #140 opens with, "A very productive day today -- cranking along on Chapter XII, and got corrections from a couple of proofers on X and XI ... "

Thanks for posting it. So, the only actually new part of this update is him admitting that he won't make the deadline he just set for himself in the post. That is progress I suppose.
