Lifetime achievement? Both of these are very recent games and one seems to be very little known.
I can't think of anything that hasn't been mentioned already, except for Stormbringer (1st, 2nd and 3rd Editions). First licensed Moorcock game seems worth a nomination.

I'm generally with Andy in terms of how I will ultimately vote, although of course people can nominate anything they want. "Lifetime" achievement requires at least some minimal length of lifetime. To my mind Fate and Apocalypse World are really just now old enough to be considered.

As the only RPG to be nominated for any major award outside of gaming (in this case, a Nebula), The Tragedy of GJ 237b has a short - but distinguished - life. Obviously, it'll never win a GLAIR.

OTOH, several of the old standbys that are being listed are primarily notable simply for being old. Probably, they'll eventually win a GLAIR.

Comparing the date of publication to the date of GLAIR shows a few interesting things.

The "oldest" game that won was D&D (hard to get older than that), at 36 years old at win.
The "youngest" game that won was Classic WoD, at 20 years old at win. However, there's been a trend to "newer" games (late 1970s to mid 1980s) in the life of the award.

The average age at win is 28.9 years old. So, I predict this year's winner will be published 1989/1990 or before. Probably from the 1970's list below -

Arduin
Boot Hill
Bunnies & Burrows
Bushido
Chivalry & Sorcery
Empire of the Petal Throne
En Garde!
Gamma World
Metamorphosis Alpha
Star Trek: Adventure Gaming in the Final Frontier
Starfaring
Starships & Spacemen
The Complete Warlock
The Infinity System
Tunnels & Trolls
Villains & Vigilantes
What Price Glory?!
Ysgarth

But, there's no accounting for pop culture

Well not really. As I mentioned in The Tragedy of GJ 237b nominated for a Nebula Award it means nothing more than just one person nominated it. It didn't make the shortlist which is what most people (and the SFWA) mean when they talk about Nebula nominees.

OK, then we'll just let the game stand on its own. Because that's enough.

I will offer (somewhat tongue in cheek) that this is the first system in my lifetime of gaming that has achieved the 'wow' sensation I got when I first sat down to play RPGs. The build-up from their 'Momentum' mechanic really gives me the feeling that I can take heroic actions.

You can nominate anything you want, so no big deal.

Besides -- it is traditional, in the GLAIR process, for at least one argument over exactly what "lifetime" entails.

Realms of the Unknown <- this is in the bgg database; it's an edge-case, but it's every bit as reasonable (or more) for it to be called an RPG.

Breaking the Ice primarily but The Romance Trilogy is it's current iteration and so I figured that some people may only know it from its inclusion therein and/or not realize that it was originally a stand alone book and/or might think it published in 2016 instead of 2005.

The only requirement is it be in the RPGG database. If it is not, then it is not eligible.

DSA needs to be on the list of nominees.

But once again, any hall of fame without Shadowrun is silly.

Well HeroQuest. Whilst it can be debated whether the changes from HQ1 to HQ2 makes the latter a new game. HQ2 and HQG are essentially the same RPG, there was no major rule changes, and only one minor one (I think). What it did have was a lot of background information on Glorantha (the setting). They appear as two RPGs in the system

My understanding is you are nominating the HeroQuest portion of Hero Wars/HeroQuest. I will try and capture that in the nomination.

So I've received several questions (both in the thread and in geekmail) about what exactly is eligible. The minimum qualification I have stated is it must be in the RPGGeek Database. Others have asked if supplements or systems are eligible, or if it is only the overarching RPG. I want to take into consideration what others think, so we will have a poll!

Poll
Which entries in the RPGGeek Database should be eligible for the Lifetime Achievement award that is GLAIR?
Your Answer   Vote Percent Vote Count
RPG Publisher (companies e.g. TSR)
15.8% 3
RPG Designer/Artist/Producer (people e.g. Gary Gygax)
21.1% 4
RPG Family (overall RPG e.g. D&D)
100.0% 19
RPG Family (edition specific RPGs e.g. D&D 5e)
78.9% 15
RPG System (e.g. d20)
36.8% 7
RPG Supplements (Settings e.g. Greyhawk, Series e.g. The Enemy Within, Periodicals e.g. Dragon Magazine)
26.3% 5
Anything in the database whatsoever! (including genres e.g. westerns, mechanics e.g. attribute-based, things e.g. fudge dice)
5.3% 1
Something else (elaborate in the comments because my mindreading ability only has a range of 10 feet and you won't answer your door)
5.3% 1

Personally I'd like to see nominations limited to games first published (which might mean online) at least ten years earlier than the year of nomination. This would give some heft to the word "lifetime".
