I still ended up thinking of "A hundred and one dalmatians" before I got to the right answer!

Here's the next one:

A new college president arranges to bring in two ringers to guarantee victory against their rival team in the big inter-college football game. But when he mistakenly recruits a pair of no-hopers and the pros end up playing for the other team, things go badly wrong.

I went through the "films with numbers" list on Wikipedia. If I hadn't started at nine and went down I would have got to the answer quicker! Because as soon as I saw it, I thought that it fitted.

This is a trick, because I'd bet dimes to dollars your "football" is actually "footie" aka soccer.

I'm not so sure, unless the college is in Oxford or Cambridge. Because otherwise I don't think we have colleges with presidents that would have that sort of inter-college football game.

Normally when I say football, I mean proper football (i.e. soccer)!

But on this occasion, I mean American Football.

I give up now. I was thinking "Do I know ANY movies about American Football?" And then I looked on IMDB where they have a list of movies about American Football, and I found that I never even heard of ANY of the movies on this list.

I got that you knew it (and were even giving a clue with your microbadges), but thought you were letting it run for others to guess.

You are right - it's the Marx Brothers' comedy, Horse Feathers.

I guess this isn't a classic comedy crowd...

Let's try a different gene:

A group of British soldiers successfully defends an outpost against impossible odds (~150 against thousands).

I have seen quite a few Marx Brothers movies, but not this one.
