I have not seen any disaster movies in the last 30 years or so. None of them were really worth seeing. They all had the same plot, they all employed a bunch of famous but aging actors, they were all completely predictable. As I cannot pinpoint this exact movie, I am going to take a stab at it, and if it is wrong I can take another stab (as I am not going to look it up on IMDB):

The Towering Inferno.

I was curious and tried to find it. It took a bit of finding, even using Google. I would never have guessed it.

And no, it's not The Towering Inferno.

Then I guess: Airport (it should be around this time, with these actors)

I have seen it, but I had to use IMDb to find it (and, assuming I'm right, not Airport). Really didn't think it was that bad. Mind you, think I was also fairly young at the time.

Jeez, which disaster movie then? It can't be The Poseidon Adventure, because then he would have mentioned Ernest Borgnine. There were so many freakin' disaster movies made around that time...

Let’s see a few more guesses.

Otherwise I will add another hint this evening or tomorrow morning.

Gonna go all guessy.

Airport 80: the Concorde?

Edit: Also known as Airport '79 in some places, depending on release date.

Some users here appear to want to avoid disaster movies like the plague.

Nevertheless, I am pretty sure that a healthy amount of searching will bridge the knowledge gap and eventually lead people on the right track, regardless of the fact that some people might disbelieve this prophecy.

Oh, I found the movie by searching. But I figure that's cheating. It's not an open book quiz!

And now, reading further into your statement- well done on obscuring clues in it.

Hint:

A biological weapon, a helicopter, and especially a train are involved in this movie.

The Cassandra Crossing.

And no, I didn't Google it; I own a copy on DVD, and was psychologically scarred by the scene which introduces Martin Sheen (playing Ava Gardner's boy-toy) standing on his head in his Y-fronts. It's a great bad movie.

Agreed.

I saw it on TV a few years after it came out and found it pretty cool, all things considered.

My turn again. I'll try to make this one simpler.

A widower, an ex-bounty hunter, returns to his profession in the company of an old partner and a new one. The three of them track down their quarry but get entangled with local law enforcement; it doesn't go well for any of them.

I think I found it, but only through the magic of Google; it's not something I had ever heard of before.

Will hold off answering to find out whether anyone who's actually seen it recognises it from the synopsis.

If I'm right, then you're close; released the same year, and there was a lawsuit mooted… but with this film's makers considering suing the makers of Groundhog Day, rather than the other way around.
