Heh. The party goes exploring. And stumbles upon interesting "stuff". Sometimes it's an orphan wandering in the wilderness. Sometimes it's a demon lurking about... wait... I already said that one.

I think variety makes a good hex crawl. One hex might have a strange, overgrown statue in the forest (which could be used to fill up otherwise empty hexes). Another might have a mini-dungeon. Another could have a whole bunch of things, such as this larger hex split into smaller ones by Dyson Logos: https://dysonlogos.blog/maps/multi-page-dungeons/baraloba-an...

EDIT: Oh, and random event tables are nice too! Perhaps for an entire terrain type.

Does he have a July 8 birthday (or, er, August 7)?

So if I got really ambitious and had a mini-dungeon, I could theoretically provide a map of said dungeon?

That's...not happening for me, btw. It's more of a general question in case we have some more ambitious designers. I can write up some hex descriptions easily enough, but have to be mindful of how much I bite off atm.

All of your links have been very helpful, thanks! Looking over Northern Tier now.

I guess I'll just lean into the learning curve here and claim 02.02 and hope for the best.

Cool cool. There's a version of reality where I get much more adept with my mapping software in the next few weeks, and could actually knock out a reasonable map in like a day. I highly doubt ours is that reality, though.

You might notice that I'm a bit of a fan of hex crawls. All the way back to The Isle of Dread. Which is still worth looking at.

Of course if anyone wants to make a mini dungeon, or some sort of fortification or ruin but is stuck for a map, there are always those from Dyson Logos: https://dysonlogos.blog/maps/commercial-maps/

You really like mountains and hills Clark! Also why is there no marked settlement on 04.04?

I can tell you there will be one: I'd like 04.04 and 04.05 and 05.05. There may be halflings.

Does anyone mind if I declare the top of the map north? I'd like my hex to be in the east.

OK, I've downloaded both Bad Myrmidon and Northern Tier as reference.

Not sure what the expected word count is for this effort; I'm assuming no upper limit

In case anyone is interested in seeing how a collaboration like this has worked in the past, Clark organized a couple. Here's the dungeon:

https://rpggeek.com/wiki/page/RPGG_Build_a_Dungeon_Together

There's a link to the original thread on the wiki page.

It was really fun, and as you'll see there's no standard format but worked out great.

Lol. We're at least, I hope, individually keeping in mind that there are 100 hexes to be described.

I doubt we'll assign someone to all 100 (some "empty" hexes are likely just fine). But we're averaging about 2 hexes per entrant, so like, 30 or so of us should be able to comfortably cover > half.

Good call, now that you mention it, 4.4 looks like it's begging for a settlement.
