Just to whet all y'all's appetite: As a counterpoint to the 24 hour RPG contests (which I've run for the last three years) I'm going to do a 24 hour RPG supplement contest starting on April 1st.

That's the contest I'd most like to see, so I'm going to make it happen.

It is a lot of fun! I enjoy doing it, and I enjoyed contributing last year. That's why I want to do the supplement contest.

I do need to make sure I craft the supplement contest correctly, though, so as to avoid copyright entanglements. That's something I need to watch carefully.

I also learned a valuable lesson during this year's 24 hour RPG contest (and the Starfarm! contest, which overlapped with it): One contest at a time is more than enough. Don't try to double up.

It is not an original idea but how about an Iron GM competition?

I remember seeing it done on a rpg forum and it was a lot of fun to read them and see the judges comments towards the finalists' works.

Basically, each contestant was given a specific ingredients like a specific monster or place and they had to make an adventure out of those ingredients.

We should do a random monster contest where everybody is assigned to a team of six, and then they simultaneously submit their part into the final conglomeration and it is whatever it is. Only after do people learn what team they were on.

Part 1 - Draw the Head
Part 2 - Draw the Torso
Part 3 - Draw the Legs
Part 4 - Create the Statblock
Part 5 - Write the Description/Ecology
Part 6 - Pick the Game System

...there might be some, as we say, adjudication needed.

I propose that this year's contest be dedicated to Michael Taylor because of his wholesome enthusiasm to the art of the 24-hour RPG?

Something like Doodle Dice Monsters but in tournament format -

It's this goofy filler game on Drivethrurpg.com where everyone draws a monster - then you give stats to the monster based on the number of dice - I would suggest a certain number of points to buy dice for a forum game - 1 die assigned for the body / HP, a minimum 1 die assigned for the attack.

The monster must have the attack ability drawn in their uploaded sketch.
If an attack roll is higher than the HP, that monster loses.

An attack could also go for the weapon instead - an attack of 1d8 on the fire breath with a roll of say 7, means the fire breath of d12 is knocked down to a d6 attack (die rounded up). If the monster no longer has a weapon, they roll 1d2 damage non-ranged.

Initiative

1 Monsters with range attack would go before a non-ranged attack
2 If range does not decide the issue, the monster with smallest attack die goes first

A bracketed tourney would mean half of the monsters advance to the next round. Each round winners could be awarded geek gold.

So, a 20 points examples could be:

Robot w/ laser
body = 10
laser eyes = 1d10

vs.

Giant lizard
OR body = 8
tail attack = 1d4
claws = 1d8

Robot starts the battle due to range attack

Example
Round 1:
Robot attacks with laser eyes rolls again Giant lizard body - rolls 5
Giant lizard returns an attack with claws on the laser eyes - rolls 7

Round 2:
Robot attacks with laser eyes against Giant lizard body but only has 1d4
Rolls a 2 - Giant lizard has 1 Body left
Giant lizard attacks laser eyes - Rolls 1d8 claws on on the laser eyes and destroys them

Round 3:
Robot attacks with body and does 1 point of damage to Lizard body and wins.

Every two posts are compared and high roll makes it through to the next round
Last person standing wins

* What die to use?
* Should there be a way to modify your roll? (For example maybe everyone is dealt some amount of ammo and you can "spend" an ammo to re-roll or something.)

We could make our own "choose your own" adventures, so that everyone who participates gets lots of adventures to play through, immediately. Or we could make our own text-based adventures like Requiem, Gaucho, and Geist, then give them to Dave and the others who work on text-based adventures, to judge them. I believe that there's a guild or other form of group dedicated to the matter. We can geekmail our text-based adventures to whichever members of the group volunteer to help with the contest. The user(s) who did the best job get geekgold, and if we do most if not all of the work for them, they could make them site-wide event adventures, like we've had in the past.

We've had lists of things, adventure scenarios and RPGs.

Anyone up for design a building in a town?

Create a cultist ritual? Bonus for using said ritual to summon a daemon in real life?

Old school traps?

Mad wizards' inventions that are not harmful and kind of useful in a quirky way?

Design a mundane (non-magical) item.

I get why you'd want the extra time to do so, but I do like the 24 hour format because (a) it forces people to be disciplined and concise, and (b) it's a low time commitment. For those of us with kids, work, and a lot of other commitments it's a lot easier to carve out a few hours to work on something rather than a whole week.

Ultimately, there's room for both, as long as we can find someone to run them.
