Hello,

I have heard of ways where people have created their own library of books they own. These library's have the ability where someone can scan the UPC code and they can see if they already own the book or not. I've look around and cannot for the life of me find information about doing this.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

I use a programme called Readerware. I enter ISBNs manually but I believe it has UPC scanning capability. The app does.

Goodreads would support this too. Normally in Goodreads, you create "shelves" for books you want to read, books you are currently reading, and books you've read. But you can create additional custom shelves for other purposes, e.g. "Books I own," "Books in the upstairs hallway," or "My RPG Collection." The Goodreads app will scan a UPC and recognize the book if it's in the database, then you can add it to a shelf.

As does LibraryThing - you have a choice on scanning via your phone, or via a CueCat (a specialised bar code reader you can buy) or plain text-entry.

LT has collections, and it also has tags. So you could tag something hallway, or "core rules" or anything you like really.

For what you want to do I think all of these will work.

Worth noting that Goodreads is owned by Amazon, which you might not want to support.

I use Libib, but I'm not fanatical about it. The database is maddeningly incomplete. (Makes you really, really appreciate the DB here.) Still looking for a perfect option.

Be a great function to add to rpggeek ...

Sounds like a great add-on for a new premium level membership!
