Wait, which one!? Do you mean Chainmail, or Braunstein, or Little Wars, or something less defined like Blackmoor?

When someone asks what do you feel like doing? And before you can respond says, "other than an rpg"

You still understand Thac0.

When finding a solution for an issue at work, you start with "Well, x approach worked in that one game.."

You try tell explain Drow lore to anyone.

You teach your kids Chutes and Ladders (Snakes and Ladder) but only if they play with a variety of dice instead of a spinner

Heh, there are so many things people have posted that I do... but to add a few more:

Their desk at work has enough dice of all types just in case asked to join (or run) a lunch RPG group.

Has a small library of different RPGs on hand at all times just in case someone wants to try an RPG.

Can humorously list their real-world self as stats according to their favorite RPG systems.

When they get sick and miss work or other activities, they say they "missed their constitution save."

These days with tablets and memory cards, you can have a pretty substantial library to hand!

If the company printer is suddenly printing satellite photos of Iranian nuclear plants - ask the Gamer. He probably needs them for a Shadowrun scenario.

(Yes, true story.)

And whoever actually remembers THAT surely is hardcore as well.
(Little known fact: This incident is actually referenced in one of the Wild Cards novels.)

Not necessarily. I remember that very well, but some of the D&D references in this thread are lost on me.

Legit point, but I deliberately ruled it out as a second-order predecessor (at least). Still, you definitely can make a case. So nobody can really call themselves an old school RPGer unless they have Prussian experience, eh?

I wasn't aware of this at the time, but heard about these events a few years after the fact.

Initially, I thought it was some kind of April Fool's joke: I mean, in what country would the secret services raid a game company ? shake

This information has been popping up regularly on BGG and other games websites in the past decades, and it never fails to give me a laugh. laugh

Don’t forget that TSR had government reps visit their humble offices to discuss the disturbing contents of notes discarded from their playtest sessions of “Top Secret”.

(speaking from personal experience with my kids when the math textbook clearly assumed that all dice were a d6 but did not specifically state so.)

Ha!

My kid got in trouble in school recently for talking back to a teacher when teacher stated it was impossible to roll a 7 on a dice.
kid told teacher she was wrong and it was quite possible to roll a 7 on a d20... kid probably should have stopped there but she then mentioned d10, d12 etc and got her rpg set out in class to prove she was right
