Jackasses? You let a whole column get stalled and strafed on account of a couple of jackasses? What the hell's the matter with you?

Voting has opened for this year's 24 hour RPG contest. Please vote! Your input is valuable, important, and the entrants do enjoy getting feedback on their hard work.

Rules files are downloaded to the database.

Call of Coothulhu rules (24-hr Contest Version)
A Cat Had Nine Lives
Dievas full game, 24 hr design contest version
elsewhere
Fast Food Battle Royale
Field Report (24 Hour Edition)
A Gothic Story Narrative RPG
Fluffy! Rules
The Hellhound Lovers Ball
Leadtown: The Old West RPG
Rules File for Luftstalag 13½
Nightmare Rescue: 2019 24-RPG edition
Out of Time - Expanded
Privates
S.E.L.F. Team Six
Survey the Stars
Volstead Vigilantes

Voting has begun!

In order to vote:

1 Download the files for all of the entries, and give them a good read.

2 Decide on what order you think the games should be ranked, from best to worst.

3 GeekMail your decision to me (quick link).

Voting algorithm

All registered users are eligible to vote. You can change your mind if you want by sending me an updated order of voting, but only if you do so before voting closes.

The contest will be decided by Single Transferable Vote (the same method as before). This is a voting method that is not possible (yet) using the poll functionality on this site, which is why you need to send me your votes instead. I will then count up the results in order to determine the winner.

The only information I need for your vote is a list of the games in the order that you think they should end up. You do not need to list all entries in your vote, but please list at least four entries as there are places for four winners. Listing fifth/sixth/etc. choices helps when the voting is close.

For full disclosure, I will be using the Droop quota with surplus votes reallocated through proportional allocation similar to the Gregory method.

Timeline

Deadline: Wednesday, December 4th 11th, 2019

There are lots of games to read, and it takes time to digest them all and decide which is best. The voting period includes three weekends, so there shouldn't be any problems. Just in case, I'll extend the above deadline if I think that I haven't received enough votes (I'd like a minimum of 17 votes, at least as many as the number of contestants). If it's close to the deadline and you still need more time, let me know (by posting here) as that will affect my decision to extend the deadline.

EDITED: I have extended the voting period by one week. We need more votes.

Questions

Please ask any questions in this thread.

The vote-counting mechanism is ideally suited to this type of contest, but is complex and so I won't be surprised if there are requests for further explanation.

An answer to one important question that keeps cropping up:
Please wait until voting is over before posting any reviews of the games (we want people to vote based on their own opinions and not be unduly swayed by the thoughts of others). Session reports and PBF games are okay; play these games!

Re: 2019 24 Hour RPG Contest - VOTING OPEN
A couple points I wanted to add outside of the main post:

1 If you are an entrant, you should include your entry in the voting. If you think your entry is the best, then by all means put it in the #1 slot on your ballot. Be honest. That's what it's about.

One of the quirks of this type of system is that entries that are left off of ballots are heavily punished. I understand and sympathize with the modesty of not voting for yourself. But include your entry in the voting.

2 Just like last year, I have an entry in the pool. If you like it, vote for it. I will be eligible for recognition in the top 4, but I will not be able to claim a GeekGold prize if I do finish in the top 4. If I do finish that high, the GeekGold rewards will slide down to the lower entrants.

That's it. Please go forth and read and vote.

Leadtown seems to have not uploaded correctly. It's a 0-byte file.

I'm not convinced the vote resolution method is complicated enough.

Pretty sure it was handed down from Stelio and is therefore more complicated than any of the games being judged.

I figured out the problem with the Leadtown file. It should be fixed soon.

Both of these are correct.

The first year I did this I built a spreadsheet to automate it. It does a nice job.

The voting method is a little complex, but it does a good job of capturing ranking to get a set of winners. And the voting method for voters is straightforward: Submit a list of what you liked, in the order you liked it.

I just saw that the Leadtown rules were re-posted to the site. They're a good copy now. Go upload if you need to.

Good stuff so far. More to get through than I anticipated, but I should be able to cast my ballot tomorrow.

I think the entries are longer this year than in years past. There are a few 10+ page entries this year, and that would have been unusual in years past.

You now have at least three.

I'll save my general comments for once voting is done, but it was fun reading them.

We have four votes in now, for a total of 5. Really, we don't get a good set of results until we get at least as many votes as there are entries. And ideally we get a lot more than that. Please read and vote!

We're up to 8 votes, with a week left to evaluate the winners.

Eight is not enough. I don't care what Dick Van Patten says. Please, if you haven't yet voted read the entries and send me a ballot. It's Thanksgiving weekend, so I figure some of y'all should have time to do some reading over the break, right?
