One can never have enough Fiasco playsets to chose from, and to that end it's contest time! Post an original Fiasco playset to RPGgeek by November 30th to win acclaim and a small quantity of geekgold. There's no particular theme, but each entry must include at least one sporting reference.

How it works:

1. Get a playset template and / or the necessary fonts from here: Fonts for making your own playsets
2. Create your playset, including at least one sporting reference
3. Upload said playset to RPGgeek
4. Add it to the contest geeklist by 30th November 2010

What of the prizes?

I guess we'll have a poll to see who wins or you can email votes to Bob or something. I'll chip in 20 / 10 / 5 GG for 1st / 2nd / 3rd place, and a bonus 5 GG for best sporting reference.

I'm in.

Also, how about the prize pot of Geek Gold swells with any tips that folk tip you on your initial announcement? Here's some to get the pot started.

I look forward to seeing everyone's contributions! Game on, let's make some disasters.

Cheers

I'm in too.

Something involving sports, huh? How liberal can our definition of sports be?

Darts is the King of Sports, so very liberal I'd reckon

P.S. Darts is mine! Sorry if you wanted to nab that rich vein of narrative gold yourself.

(Kidding. Fire away if darts is your thing too. It'd be pretty awesome if there were multiple darts-related Fiasco playsets. I'm sure Jason (Morningstar) is crying out for such playsets.)

This is great, guys. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

As Renato said, if anybody wants the InDesign template, ping me through the BPG Website.

I have been playing with the idea of writing several Fiasco playsets, but none of them have anything to do with sports. I will need to think this one over, maybe I can introduce some sport element to one of my playset ideas.

Don't worry too much about the sports aspect. Something like a baseball bat in a mafia context or a rare rookie card in a high school context is fine.

There are no reviews for this game. There is no meaningful information in the description for this game; that is, nothing to tell you how it is played. There is no information on the game page about what it takes to acquire this game.

This makes the nth time I've heard about this game in passing. Maybe it's about time someone fill some of this stuff in somewhere. I'd probably be participating in the contest if I had any idea what it entailed. Fonts? This is a game about fonts? Wait... what? Playsets? What's a playset?

Check the item entry: Fiasco. I tweaked the description a bit to help you out. Plus, you can find a review by Lowell there. And, you can buy the game at IPR, among other places.

As to the fonts, Fiasco has a distinct design, partly evoked by the fonts. sbszine tracked down either the same fonts or very similar fonts, all free for non-commercial use, for those looking to create a playset that had the same design as those released by Bully Pulpit Games.

You can download all of the freely available playsets and a decent preview from the designer's website.

Sure there are. Our Fiasco entry shows a recent RPG Geek review, a number of session reports and links to about a dozen off-site reviews, playtests and interviews with the designers. There is a link to a podcast which features actual play that you can stream right here on the Geek. The entry shows there is one recent eZine article that reviews it (and tells you the page number and author) - and, fortunately, the eZine publisher (also listed here at the Geek) releases it for free (thru-the-portal Q2, 2010). This is what the RPG Geek is designed for! All magically collected in one nice neat RPG Geek entry.

Ah, I see the problem. If you type "Fiasco" in the Search box and click on the first thing listed, you get Fiasco the RPG, not Fiasco the core rulebook for the RPG where the review is listed.

I lol'd.

This is a very annoying aspect of the site. As a database designer, I can totally appreciate why it is structured the way it is, but this is really an unhelpful system for research. It is very effective at categorizing and accuracy, but such precision is useless for basic game research. It would probably suit all 'geek sites to have a method of specifying what you are interested in (such as reviews) and search for forums, not items. C'est la vie, I guess.

The page for Fiasco-the-RPG has a section about halfway down called 'Linked Forums'. From there you can see the review for Fiasco the core rulebook. You can also filter to get reviews only. Also, if you click on Customize View at the top right of Fiasco-the-RPG, you can rearrange the page so that the Linked Forums section is more prominent. It could be a bit more user friendly, I agree.

You know, it occurred to me I can offer another prize - the winner of this contest will get an item of their choice included in a future BPG playset. It can be:

* Themselves or someone they love (or hate)
* An object or location dear to them

I'll reserve the right to make it work with the material, but it'll be in there, with a shout-out in the front matter and a link back here to the 'Geek. Sound good?

That is a very nice playset, well done Phil.

I'm really keen to give it a whirl - the Scientology running through the elements is a nice touch.

"Indonesian VHS bootleg of 'Prison Break'", lol. Thank goodness it wasn't Betamax

I'll have mine done by Sunday. Game on!

I like to think that the Prison Break episode contains some crucial escape idea, but that none of the characters can understand the dub or subtitles well enough to carry it out.

Well, my entry is done and awaiting approval from the admins. I interpreted sport loosely, but it is important to the playset as a whole.
