Inspired by the What are you drinking right *now*? thread, I thought I'd see what people are eating. You don't have to be eating it right *now* but if you are, let us know that, too. You can tell us what you ate earlier or what you're making for dinner.

I'm eating chicken-and-cheese taquitos and a tossed salad. Both made by my 8-year-old son with minimal help from me.

I'm fixing some homemade beef stew right now. Carrots, onions, celery, mushrooms, barley, and a few diced tomatoes accompany the beef and bullion. Smells good. Serving it with some toasted cheese on french bread.

noodles. chinese dumplings. soy milk. sort of a donut thing, but not sweet. hard boiled eggs (boiled in tea). a lot of things we'd call dinner or lunch, they eat in the morning.

we are in yunnan province. food is (relatively) very different throughout china. so what's common here isn't in other areas. give me hong kong breakfast (with its cantonese cooking and british influence) any day! alas, it's about as far away from me as LA is from New York!

Well, let me answer this two-fold. Yesterday, I enjoyed some wonderful home-made Peruvian dishes. I started with Papa a la Huancaina, and followed this with some Lomo Soltado. Washed it all down with a bit of Inca Cola (too bad it was the kind made in New Jersey, and not the real stuff, but you have to make do with what you can find).

(FYI: Papa a la Huancaina is a spicy, creamy cheese sauce. Traditionally, you put down a leaf of lettuce, place some boild potatoe slices atop the lettuce, cover it with the sauce, and then place half a hard-boiled egg and a kalamata olive on top. Lomo Soltado is a stir fry with peppers, onions, steak, french fries; all served over a bed of rice).

As for today:

Breakfast - avacado on toast with a dash of salt. And some orange juice.

For lunch it will be some wonderful chicken tacos, topped with a bit of cheese, cilantro, and radishes. Complementing the tacos will be a side of refried beans and mexican rice. To wash it all down? A Mexican Coke (you know, the kind made with real sugar. Not as sweet as the American kind. Much more of a sipping Coke, if you ask me).

Wow! That all sounds great. We had a Peruvian restaurant in Nashville for a while but they've either closed or moved to another part of town.

For me, it's a bagel from the place near my son's school. I melted some cheddar on it. Most of the cheese stayed on the bagel slices.

Most.

So now I have to go clean the toaster oven. At least the bagel was good.

Well, that puts a damper on my spirits. I had heard of a Peruvian place in Nashville (some said it was in Murfreesboro). I was looking forward to trying it out next time I was out there. Bummer.
