The second annual RPG Geek Holiday Adventure Contest is officially underway. Last year, the Winter Holidays had some fantastic entries. This year, I expect will be even harder!
Without further ado – this year’s theme is...

All Hallows’ Eve!

Adventures must revolve around events occurring on October 31. It can be inspired by a classic story, or something you’ve come up with all on your own.

The Rules

d10-1 Adventure must have an All Hallows’ Eve theme.
d10-2 The Adventure must be no longer than 4 pages (8.5" x 11" letter size), with up to 2 additional pages of stat-blocks, handouts, and maps, and 1 title page.
d10-3 Maps and handouts are not required. All artwork must be of your own design, under a creative commons license, or public domain, and must be black and white.
d10-4 Only one entry per person.
d10-5 Entries may be submitted as PDF or DOC(X) files.
d10-6 Title Page must only contain:
yellowtrainSubmitter’s name and/or Geek Username
bluetrainAdventure Name
greentrainAny books(s) needed to play the adventure (if the adventure is completely generic, please note it here)
redtrainHoliday Adventure Contest 2012
d10-7 Submission period ends on October 15, 2012 at 17:00 MST

Prizes

Last year’s contest had some great prizes and this year, is no different. The top three adventures will receive a Gift Certificate for Drive Thru RPG, so you can buy whatever your heart desires!

d10-1 $100 GC
d10-2 $60 GC
d10-3 $40 GC

Geek Admins, Employees and I are all ineligible to win prizes.

Any tipped on this thread will be allocated to the winners in the following manner:
d10-1 20%
d10-2 30%
d10-3 50%

Yes, the distribution is inverted. This is on purpose!

All participants will also get this microbadge mb upon acceptance of your entry.

Voting

Voting will commence shortly after Submissions close. Voting will close on October 24, 2012 at (when vote posted) MST. Each member will have the opportunity to cast a vote for their top three submissions.

Submissions

Please email your submissions to joshthegeer (at) gmail (dot) com. Any submissions that violate the rules will be rejected. I will confirm receipt of the file. Please GM me if you do not receive a confirmation within 12 hours. If you submit near the deadline, please GM me as well to ensure your submission makes the voting package.

I look forward to seeing all the adventures!

Woot! This looks like it will be a great contest! In fact, given the theme, I might be convinced to actually try one myself (never done it before).

Regardless, I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

System neutral or are we listing the system and books in this section?

If it is System neutral, say so. If it uses a system, note that (and any books you need if you draw on published material).

I'm working on my entry too; hoping to finish it this week, so I can squeeze in a couple of play-tests before submitting

First off, play-test?! You actually play-test these things? Second - you shouldn't enter. In fact, none of you should; that way I can guarantee a win!

But, yes, I'm working on my own, as well. I have the idea, just need to start putting it down to see how it plays out. Luckily, I have a month until its due!

I have a rough idea for an entry, but I'm not sure if I'll get the time to flesh it out. It's been many years since I wrote an adventure.

Hmmm. I've been working on a Halloween themed adventure to drop into my PbF campaign. I'm sure I have a couple ideas that would work out for this. Sounds like fun ! zombie

Edit: - What is the definition of "pages", as far as the "no more than four pages..." rule ? How do you measure a page ? I guess you could print out the material and see how many pages out of a printer it takes up ?

I've edited the rules - but a page is a Letter (8.5" x 11") page. Most submissions last year were in Word, which easily counts the pages. If you submit a PDF, I'll check the dimensions of the document digitally.

This'll be a fun time to try out the Dungeon World module builders, since that's the game I'm already up to my elbows in.

Thanks for organising this competition, I'm really looking forward to it! I'm planning to write a Fiasco playset, and I had a couple of questions I was hoping you could clarify?

* The size allows for 4 pages, plus 2 additional pages for stat blocks, handouts, and maps. I don't know if you're familiar with Fiasco, but a playset consists of 4 sets of tables, plus some extra bits like setup information and a summary. Would it be allowable to have one set of tables on each of my 4 pages, and use the other 2 for the additional information? Or should I squeeze everything into the 4 pages (which would be doable, just more cramped)?

* Is it allowable to have art on the cover page?

Thanks!

I am ok with this format.

Exactly. If the Fiasco Kid is in this I might as well quit before I even start writing.

No, I'll likely still submit so long as I can find the time to put something together.

Fiasco is a great game Jason, btw.
