The third annual RPG Geek Holiday Adventure Contest is officially underway. Last year, we were horrified by the Halloween adventure contest. This year, we’re exploring a holiday that’s more significant for those of us that aren’t in North America.

Without further ado – this year’s theme is...

Midsummer!

Midsummer is an important celebration in many European cultures. One of the most common parts of the celebration is a bonfire, which is said to protect against evil spirits. There are many traditions to draw upon for this holiday – it will be very interesting to see what folks can come up with!

Adventures must revolve around events occurring on the summer solstice (June 21). It can be inspired by a classic story, or something you’ve come up with all on your own.

The Rules
I’ve made a few adjustments to the rules this year to (hopefully) make it easier on everyone.

d10-1 Adventure must have a Midsummer theme.
d10-2 The Adventure must be no longer than 6 pages (8.5" x 11" letter size) and 1 title page.
d10-3 Maps and handouts are not required, though are really nice to have. All artwork must be of your own design, under a creative commons license, or public domain. Color art is acceptable!
yellowtrainYou may use icons from the rulebooks that is commonly used to depict dice conditions, etc. - BE SURE TO OBTAIN PERMISSION TO DO THIS FROM COPYRIGHT HOLDER.
d10-4 Only one entry per person.
d10-5 Entries may be submitted as PDF or DOC(X) files.
d10-6 Title Page must only contain:
yellowtrainSubmitter’s name and/or Geek Username
bluetrainAdventure Name
greentrainAny books(s) needed to play the adventure (if the adventure is completely generic, please note it here)
redtrainHoliday Adventure Contest 2013
purpletrainAny artwork you wish – this is optional.
d10-7 Submission period ends on June 9, 2013 at 19:00 MST

Prizes
As always, I think we have some great prizes. The top three adventures will receive a Gift Certificate for DriveThruRPG, so you can buy whatever RPG your heart desires!

d10-1 $75 GC
d10-2 $50 GC
d10-3 $25 GC

Geek Admins, Employees and I are all ineligible to win prizes.

Any tipped on this thread will be allocated to the winners in the following manner:
d10-1 25%
d10-2 35%
d10-3 40%

Yes, the distribution is inverted. This is on purpose!

All participants will also get the contest microbadge upon acceptance of your entry (mb).

Voting
Voting will commence shortly after Submissions close. Voting will close on June 17, 2013 at 19:00 MST. Each RPG member will have the opportunity to cast a vote for their top three submissions.

Submissions
Please email your submissions to joshthegeer (at) gmail (dot) com. Any submissions that violate the rules will be rejected. I will confirm receipt of the file. Please GM me if you do not receive a confirmation within 12 hours. If you submit near the deadline, please GM me as well to ensure your submission makes the voting package.

I look forward to seeing all the adventures!

Well, it would make it really awkward to just skip straight from d10-3 to d10-5, don't you think?

This contest is in the middle of my move and school work, but I will also give it a shot.

Mostly because of the prizes involved. I want to prevent someone from winning all the prizes.

I'm sorry for that. Things got backed up at work and I forgot to post it earlier, like I had wanted. With that said, it is 4 weeks, which is the amount of time of the original HAC.

Would it be possible to submit two or more entries, as long as only one wins prizes? so, if two win prizes, ignore the second.

I'd prefer to not open it up to multiple entries per person, just for ease of administration. Though, if there is demand, I'm open to revisit my position.

I suppose I shouldn't be the one asking for multiple entries right after I've said that the time is quite little

Personally, I think one entry per person is fine. It's pretty standard in most contests.

So a submission can have a cover in addition to the six adventure pages and one title page, yes or no?

No, that was not my intention - but your point is noted. I was using 'cover' and 'title page' interchangeably.

I am so glad this does not have a time constraint like the 24 hour RPG did, because I just came up with the most ridiculous idea ever. It is probably too difficult / crazy / absurd to pull off, but damn it, I am going to try!

I will probably need the whole four weeks.

A quick question on rule 6.3: does this mean that the adventure can be created for any game system? It isn't a problem for licenses etc.?
thank you

Yes. Any game system is fair game.

And it is my belief that there are no licensing issues for MOST games. Provided you do not include anything that is held under a copyright in your submission. For example, including a copy-paste (or rephrasing) of a set of rules from a rulebook would be a no-no. Check with the publisher of the system you want to use if you are concerned about this.

Use a smaller font or fit more than two tables to a page.

Basically find a work-around! Anything is possible!

I've had Fiasco playsets submitted under the old rules (which, is the same pagecount, just no longer restricting content on the pages).

I wouldn't go that far, honestly - FFG has a fan adventure contests fairly regularly.

Just don't use a picture of a GW product...
