In many of our games, here, the GMs use tokens to represent each character. Rather than have a different token for the same character under each GM, I thought it would be nice to have a centralized location for storing tokens. That way, GMs could grab a character's token from the storage area; thus enabling a consistent token for the same character across the board. In my mind, that enables each person to have their own, ideal token; much as they might have a customized mini for a tabletop game. (I know, really not that important).

However, I'm not sure of the best way to go about this, so I'm turning to the more knowledgeable. What would be the best way to create a storage area for tokens? One that multiple people could access (to both download and upload)? Any suggestions are welcome!

Just throwing something out... maybe every player uploads their own token to their personal gallery, and from there the GM can take it?

Umm. But pics in the gallery don't have transparent backgrounds, yeah? T least the tokens used in my games are round.

Great idea UE. Perhaps a Dropbox or Google drive?

I was thinking of the galleries, but I'd like to avoid the loss of the transparent background. However, this may be the way to go, for the moment.

The only question would be who has the ability to edit images? If someone wants to update a token for their character, but didn't upload the original token, they'd have to get that other person to do it. Not a huge problem, I admit.

I had been thinking of these. However, I'm not the most knowledgeable on Dropbox. Is it possible to set up a folder that allows others to both upload and download? (I assume it is).

And, is it possible to set up the folder so it displays the pictures, even if as thumbnails?

Why not have a shared google drive folder?

Inside the folder would be folders for each username, and inside those, google drawings, each titled with the character name.

You can copy-paste images from one google drawing to another quite easily.

Okay, we'll start with trying a Google Drive folder.

I'm getting it started, and it can be found here:

Shared Token Drive

I plan to have folders for characters, monsters, NPCs. I'm organizing the characters by letter of the alphabet, rather than one per character (however, this can change if needed). Within the characters' folder, I'm also going to add a 'Stock' image, where I'll put up a lot of random tokens I've made. If someone wants to use one for a character, they can claim it!

You all will have to let me know if it works.

Still plenty more to add! I might start going through all the games in the guild and adding them as I find 'em.

I had originally organized them alphabetically, by first name in the Character Folder. However, the idea of arranging them by bgg user name was also brought up. In my opinion, that would result in a lot more shared files. Plus, I, personally, prefer being able to look up the character name, rather than find the bgg user name, then the character name.

However, I'm willing to organize them in whatever manner the majority decides!

Perhaps a poll would be in oder?

Poll
When looking for tokens, how do you (or how would you prefer) searching?
Look for the character's name alphabetically
Find the user's folder, and look for their character's name in the appropriate file

I tried to get Tzadoks Token out as a PNG file with transparency, but I couldn't find a way so far. Any ideas how to manage that?

Try this, and let me know if it works. When you go the storage drive, in the upper right hand corner of the screen there should be a blue button that says "Open in Drive" (or something like that). Click on that button. Then, you should be able to edit the files, which will enable you to grab the token.

If the problem persists, perhaps I'll just change each token to its own file. Let me know!

I already did this, but from the Google Drawing I can't export a single object (at least I didn't find a way to).

Okay, I'll go re-do the format later today. I'll go ahead and give each token it's own file. That will help with ease of download.
